Meet Our Models - Wafaa

Models don’t always get the amount of love and credit they deserve. An item of clothing could look amazing hanging up in your closet but chances are, you bought that shirt or dress or the entire outfit because of how it was modeled, whether by yourself (shout out to fitting rooms) or that person who was hired to give the outfit some life.

We are dedicating this segment to the models who so generously lent us their time and good vibes to bring our pieces to life. You'll get a peak into who they are and their interests as they relate to African fashion. So, without further ado, we introduce to you, Wafaa.

1) What’s your background (where are you originally from)?
I was born in Montreal, but I’m originally from Morocco.
2) When was the last time you been to your country, if at all?
The last time I had been to my country was when I was 2 years old and I lived there for 2 years.
3) Before being introduced to our brand, what was your experience with African print/traditional African clothing?
I always really liked African print and traditional African clothing. Always had headbands with African print on them. I also own a few ashikis (colorful garment originally from West Africa).
4) What attracts you to this type of clothing?
What attracts me to this type of clothing is that it’s different from what we usually wear in Canadian society. Also the colours/patterns of the clothes are what make them special. And of course supporting African/black owned products…they can take all my money.
5) If you had to pick just 1 favorite piece from the Shakara stock thus far, which one would it be?
One of my favorite pieces from Shakara so far would be the Buki Kimono. (Please note this item was a 1 of 1 and is out of stock)
6) What are some places you could see yourself wearing Shakara?
I’d see myself wearing Shakara at work, school, big events (gala, graduation, wedding, etc).
7) What’s one thing you want everyone reading right now to take away about you aside from your love for Shakara?
We all have to be careful with what we do with our time. We have to spend it with the right people doing the right things because we never know when we’ll be gone. We should focus on spreading positivity so we can live in peaceful world.
We couldn't agree more @wafaa.nail. Keep spreading that energy!
